NCCL SCHOOL'S BIG GIVE
PROJECTS AND NEEDS

Delaware Humane Society - The Delaware Humane Association (DHA) is Delaware's premiere non-profit, lifelong care animal shelter and adoption center. The DHA is committed to providing for the needs of homeless and abused dogs and cats in our community. Serving over 5,000 companion animals annually through direct intervention and many more through advocacy, the Delaware Humane Association continues to promote the humane values of protection, care, and compassion for all living things by providing Special Programs, Humane Education and Outreach. The DHA envisions a future where all people and their pets live healthy, happy and long lives together.

  • Needs:Cat litter, dry erase markers, canned cat food, small stainless steel bowls, jumbo/small litter pans, Science Diet canned dog food.


Forgotten Cats - "At Forgotten Cats, our mission is to reduce the unwanted cat population without killing and to stop the suffering of the thousands of kittens born to abandoned, homeless cats."

To raise money to help support veterinarian bills, Kaitlin and Clairellen are conducting a raffle. Raffle tickets are $1.00. The prizes are: Cat Lover's Basket with mugs, cards, book etc. $25.00 gift certificate to Klondike Kates, $25.00 gift certificate to Wooden Wheels, $40.00 gift certificate to Hardcastle Gallery, cornbags and a quilt. The drawing for the raffle will be held on Sunday, May 4th. Tickets will be sold at school.

  • Needs: bleach, paper towels, toilet paper, dishwashing liquid, tissues, scotch tape, heavy duty staplers, file folders.


Faithful Friends - "Our goal is to create a community that reduces the birth of unwanted pets, finds homes for all adoptable animals and provides a sanctuary for those who, because of age, illness or temperament, can't easily be adopted."

  • Contact People: Jeff'on Brickhouse and Ellie Friedman
  • Needs: dog or puppy canned food, dog leashes, dog leashes, wet cat food, collars any size, marrow bones, cat litter, cat carriers, cat toys.


Tri-State Bird Rescue - Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research is a non-profit organization whose mission is to achieve excellence in the rehabilitation of injured, orphaned, and oiled native wild birds, with the goal of returning healthy birds to their natural environment.

In addition to collecting items, the kids are holding a coin roll game to raise money. Candy prizes are awarded if rolled change drops into a container. Bonus prize if the coin goes through the hole in the container.

  • Needs: 12 inch bungee chords, suet cakes, wild bird seed - finch mix, Gerber dry baby cereal (oatmeal), Ensure - vanilla, cat/dog good bowl (plastic or ceramic), Home Depot, Lowes or grocery store gift cards, Duct tape, Sharpies - fine point, heavy weight shower curtain, thumb drives (512 MB or bigger), Q-tips, white facial tissue, paper towels and toilet paper.
The group will also be collecting old sheets.


Sojourner's Place - "Program provides comprehensive case management for homeless men and women. This includes: shelter, meals, health information and/or mental health counseling, in house drug and alcohol education, access to job training and GED. Up to 42 men and 8 women can be housed at one time and stay as long as they need to stay to complete program and return to the community with full-time employment and housing."

Bayard House - "The mission of Bayard House is to provide residential, educational, and referral services to at-risk pregnant teens/women and to young families in need, so that they may become nurturing parents and independent, contributing members of society."

  • Contact people for both Sojourner's Place and Bayard House: Casey Garvey, Asia Igou and Mary Mecca
  • Needs: diapers, wipes, baby lotion, toiletry items, gently used baby equipment (car seats, swings, bassinets etc.), gently used baby clothes.


West End Neighborhood House - "Our mission is to assist individuals to achieve self-sufficiency, to reach and maintain their maximum potential, and to live responsibly and harmoniously in a healthy community in our complex world."

  • Contact People: Mike McLaughlin, Andrew Dynes, Davey Parker and Jelani Russell
  • Needs: The boys are collecting sports equipment: basketballs, footballs, baseball gloves, whiffle ball sets, soccer balls. They are also raising money to help purchase drumsticks and marching boots for the drill team.


Gibby Center for the Arts Camp Fundraiser

The group will be funding disadvantaged kids in the Middletown area to attend Gibby summer art camp. The cost per child is $150. The goal is to send 2 children.

  • Needs: spare change for Penny Wars or cash donations. The last day of Penny Wars will be on Thursday, May 1, 2007. There will be a counting and wrapping party after-school that day from 3 - 4:30. All kids are welcome to come and help.


Fundraiser for Cole Fitzgerald family - Cole Fitzgerald is 4 years old and was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma, a cancer in the nerve tissue.

  • Needs: Cat is holding a bake sale to hold funds for the family.


Trash Clean-up and Tree planting in Newark

The group will be picking up trash in Newark and using money raised through pledges to purchase trees that will be planted in the Newark area.

  • Contact People: Noah Cutter, Peter Vanderkley, Bea Thomas and Tyler Hansen
  • Needs: Sponsors for trash pick-up. Pledge per bag or make a single donation. Sign-up sheets are on the front door of the school and on the Library door.


Mona Foundation - Sunflower Mission - "Sunflower Mission is a 501(c)3 organization committed to improving the lives of the people in Vietnam, mainly through educational assistance programs. We are an U.S.-based, non-profit, non-political, non-governmental organization."

  • Contact Person: Gregory Wolf
  • Needs: financial donations to purchase school supplies kits for children. Each kit can be purchased for $3.00.
Gregory is selling cards that he has made from photographs that he has taken. The cards will be sold at school for $2.00 a piece.


Ronald McDonald House - "The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities, Inc. (RMHC®) is to create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well being of children. RMHC fulfills its mission by creating innovative, effective programs that address targeted needs, and by supporting these programs and other activities conducted by its local Chapters worldwide. RMHC also awards grants to other nonprofit children's organizations that positively impact the health and well being of children around the world."

  • Needs: financial donations.
Jeremy will be selling cookies to raise funds.


Backpacks for Delaware Foster Children - Sarah is putting together backpacks that will be given to children as they are about to enter foster care placements. Her goal is to put together 20 backpacks.

  • Needs: shampoo, conditioner, soap, tooth brushes, toothpaste, photo albums, journals, address books, pencils, pens, pencil cases, erasers, stickers, OR financial donation to purchase items.
